An update for regular visitors and old friends

First, an introduction. I’m Martin and this is my blog.

I thought I should point that out since, until now, I’ve had more than one. Back in the mid 2000s I had an anime blog called The End of the World, then I started Mono no Aware. In between, updated rarely and slightly neglected, was this: the main domain of my site. I eventually found a use for it in hosting my original fiction and updates to my ongoing music project but decided that I’d want everything in one place when I move web hosts in the next few weeks. If that sounds a bit confusing, don’t worry. All you need to know, if you’re trying to find a blog post from ages ago, is this: everything has been moved here. Everything. And that’s where it’s going to stay.

Most of the posts here came from Mono no Aware, but some date back to those first two years of writing and being part of the anime fan community. I must admit that my writing was even worse then than it is now, but for pure nostalgia value I decided to keep it. If you want to know what I thought of Mushishi back when it was out on fansub, or how I was never into Haruhi Suzumiya when it first aired, you can find it in the imaginatively-titled Old anime blog category. Not sure why you’d want to, but if you do, it’s there.

There are still a few housekeeping tasks for me to do yet. Although WordPress has ‘export’ and ‘import’ features to transfer content between different blogs – it’s cool to see how far the WP platform has come in the past few years actually – little details like file path URLs for links to other posts, or pictures embedded in posts for instance, need to be edited manually. It’s a long, tedious process and I’m sure there are a few dead links and misdirections that I missed, but some of this stuff goes back a long way.

I’m also playing around with the layout and theme options. The default Twenty Eleven theme allows custom header images, a light or dark colour scheme, plus other little bits and pieces that I didn’t know existed. My design/coding skills were never up to much and I’m really out of practice, so the CSS stuff looks alien to me now.

In terms of blogrolls, just replace the ‘mononoaware’ part of the URL with ‘www’ or, if you have the link to my REALLY old blog, just delete the ‘/blog/’ off the end. Since I suck at updating frequently, having only one blog to update will hopefully make it easier. Not to mention making the move to the new hosting provider more straightforward as well.

One piece of trivia that I’m sure is less interesting to anyone who reads this than it is to me: this post is my 644th as a blogger, not counting the stuff that I decided to delete. The oldest posts date back to the spring of 2006. I feel old. orz
